The 2014 Almost Annual New York State Crappie Derby in Broome County will not be held this month after all.

Organizers say due to the up and down temperatures over the past few weeks, the ice on Whitney Point Lake is not expected to be thick enough to support the thousands of people who turn out for the ice fishing tournament, so the event is postponed but not canceled.

The Crappie Derby committee says they are looking at February 8as a possible new date for the event.

Hopes are being pinned on another Arctic Blast forecast and possible continued cold weather to follow will allow the tournament to be staged in February.
