State police have arrested a New York corrections officer who allegedly raped a prison inmate.

Authorities say 30-year-old Stephanie Sampson of Utica has been accused of providing alcohol and having a sexual relationship with an inmate at the Marcy Correctional Facility.

Sampson was charged with third-degree rape and second-degree promoting prison contraband. She also was charged with official misconduct.

Investigators say Sampson was taken into custody on Saturday. She was transported to Oneida County Jail for arraignment.

The arrest followed a joint investigation by state police and the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision Office of Special Investigations.

A state police news release did not indicate when the alleged criminal activity occurred or what prompted the investigation.

The Marcy Correctional Facility is a medium security prison for men located northwest of Utica.
