The New York State Gaming Commission is reviewing the casino proposals from the three developers selected last year for state licenses and say they expect two proposals to be submitted to compete for a fourth casino license now to be awarded in the Southern Tier.

The Commission met May 26 to discuss the background checks for the Lago, Montreign and Rivers casino proposals that won license bids last year.

The New York State Police are looking at the organizations and will present their background check results to the Commission before the panel grants the final license approvals.

Meanwhile, the state-appointed review board last March approved reopening the bidding for a license to be granted in what has been termed “The True Southern Tier” after the proposal for the Lago resort in the Finger Lakes was put in the same region as Broome and Tioga Counties, beating out the two Southern Tier project bids.

Tioga Downs in Nichols is submitting revised plans but the commission says another proposal is expected from a developer who has yet to apply.  The deadline for submitting a Southern Tier proposal is in July.
