The newly appointed director of the Southern Tier Chapter of the American Red Cross, Colleen McCabe discussed the many aspects of the Red Cross in her debut appearance on the weekly, local public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up October 17.

McCabe has been with the local chapter for four years and recently was the interim director taking over from Shelly Bierweiler before being appointed to the position permanently.

One of the programs the Red Cross would like residents to know about is one that provides and installs up to three smoke alarms and fire safety instruction to any resident approved for the program. McCabe emphasizes that the program has no income, residency or other requirements.

Disaster services, first aid training for humans and pets and services for members of the military are also among some of the topics of discussion.

Southern Tier Close Up can be heard Saturdays at 12:10 p.m. on News Radio 1290 WNBF.
