A Binghamton man is being named the top cop of New York State Police Troop C, based in Sidney.

State Police Superintendent Joseph D’Amico has assigned Major Donald Faughnan as Troop C Commander.

Major Faughnan became a Trooper in 1982 and moved up through the ranks, being promoted to Major in 2009, assigned to the Forensic Investigation Center in Albany.

His new assignment as Commander of Troop C puts him in charge of State Police protection in seven counties, Including Broome, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Otsego, Tioga and Tompkins Counties.

His father, Donald, was an Assistant Chief for the Binghamton Fire Department and his brother, Steven, is currently an Assistant Chief for the BFD.

Another brother, Timothy, is Chief of the New York State University Police at Binghamton and a third brother, Eugene, is running for the New York State Supreme Court.

His sister, MaryEllen Faughnan-Kerien, is a French Professor in Syracuse and his other sister, Kathleen Cornilus, is an insurance claims agent.
