The last "Giant Market" in Broome County has vanished. The interactive grocery exhibit at the Discovery Center on Binghamton's South Side has become a Weis Market.

The transition at the children's museum comes five years after the Akel family sold its Giant Markets chain to Pennsylvania-based Weis Markets.

The Weis "store" at the Discovery Center features scaled-down shelves, cash registers and carts so kids can have a "shopping" experience.

Updated fixtures, graphics and lighting have been installed as part of the modernized exhibit.

According to Weis Markets, this is the first children's interactive exhibit sponsored by the company.

A ribbon-cutting event for the exhibit is to be held next Monday.
