Nathan Taber, president of Arch Digital Community Gateways, expects the new sign on the north side of the Vestal Parkway to be operational soon.

In recent days, workers have been installing two digital billboards a few yards from the city of Binghamton line.

Taber said the 7 by 12 foot panels were produced by Watchfire Signs of Danville, Illinois. He said the digital advertising signs have a higher resolution than a similar display now in use on the parkway near the Town Square Mall.

Taber said it took about eight months to obtain the necessary town, county and state approvals for the Vestal project.

The sign will be used to advertise businesses and community events. Taber said it also can be utilized for public safety messages and traffic alerts.

The new display is being erected on a site on the east end of what had been the Rivercrest Historic District. The final two houses in the district were torn down in April of last year.
