Nearly four years after a flood wrecked the old MacArthur School on Binghamton's South Side, construction on a new school is nearing completion.

Binghamton school district officials say November 16 continues to be the "substantial completion date" for the project.

If work continues on schedule, the first children and teachers could start using one of the wings of the facility after Thanksgiving.

Younger students are expected to move to the new school first. Older students may start their classes at the Vestal Avenue site early next year.

School district officials have said they expect the $80 million project will come in slightly under budget.
