A Cortland County man is crediting neighbors with saving his life after they threw rocks at his window to alert him his house was on fire.

Officials say the blaze broke out at around 1:30 p.m. May 16 at the home on Route 11 in Marathon and the man had to be rescued from the roof of the burning building.

Fire officials say the wind helped drive the flames through the wood-frame structure, destroying the building.

There were no injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
