National Night Out was celebrated all around the region last night.  Originally started to heighten crime awareness and drug prevention, the Night Out was also established to bring communities and police closer to help promote safer neighborhoods.

Ceremonies and items on display varied across the area.  Many had fire trucks and emergency responder equipment available.

In Vestal a number of volunteer firefighters were on hand to speak with visitors and talk about the equipment they brought with them.  They took plenty of time to talk with children who visited with them.  They demonstrated various equipment items and explained their function.

In Vestal there were refreshments available and a car show to also highlight the evening.  Similar Night Out events were held in Binghamton, Endicott, Endwell and Johnson City as well as all around the area.
