Syracuse University's men's basketball and football programs have been hit with a number of sanctions announced by the NCAA.  The sanctions come as the result of an eight-year investigation into the school's athletic department.

According to a number of sources including ESPN.com the Orange basketball and football programs go on a five-year probation through March 5, 2020.  Legendary men's baskeball coach Jim Boeheim receives a nine-game suspension for ACC games next season.  The school must vacate 108 of Boeheim's coaching victories which drops him from second to sixth on the all-time wins list.

The basketball team faces a reduction of 12 scholarships over four seasons. Syracuse must return to the NCAA all funds received through the former Big East Conference for appearances in 2011, 2012 and 2013 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament
