Work on the Bluestone natural gas delivery pipeline is underway in the Twin Tiers.

Construction has begun on the 44 mile pipeline that is intended to take natural gas from the Marcellus Shale fields in Northern Pennsylvania to the Millennium pipeline connected to markets along the East Coast.

Bluestone pipeline officials say they are hoping to have the line operational and delivering natural gas within the next few months.

The New York State Public Service Commission gave the project the okay to move forward at the end of September and construction began about two and a half weeks ago.

Nine miles of the pipeline is planned to run from Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania through the towns of Saford and Windsor in Eastern Broome County.
