New York State Police are investigating a two-vehicle, head-on crash in the Town of Nanticoke that left two people dead.

At around 4:30 p.m. August 27, authorities responded to the crash on Route 26 near Glen Aubrey.

Officials say 35 year old Bhrett Berg of Johnson City was driving south when his car crossed into the opposite lane on a partial blind curve and hit a northbound vehicle, driven by 49 year old Michael Smith of Homer.

Smith and Berg were killed. 50 year old Gail Renninger-Smith of Homer, who was riding in the northbound car, was taken to Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Center.

Authorities said they expected the woman would survive her injuries.

The crash investigation and clean-up closed part of route 26 for several hours into the evening.
