A measure that would eliminate a huge paper trail in Albany is being pushed by Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo of Endwell.

The Democrat is asking voters to approve Proposition 2 that would have bills in the state legislature filed digitally instead of printed on paper.

Lupardo says thousands of bills are introduced in the Senate and Assembly every session, requiring millions of sheets of paper, much of which goes unread.

The Assembly Ways and Means Committee has estimated it costs $13 million to print the material and additional money to haul it away.

In addition to saving money and trees, Lupardo says having the bills filed digitally will allow the public better access to viewing pending legislation.

Proposition Two is one of three questions being posed on the November 4 ballot.
