Multiple Crashes Close Route 81 Near Syracuse

Interstate 81 was closed in both the northbound and southbound directions at exits 14 and 15 early this afternoon.  A series of crashes involving tractor-trailers and cars were caused by a lake effect snowstorm. The highway was shut down between Lafayette and Tully.

As of 12:50 p.m., one SOUTHBOUND lane was open to traffic but all NORTHBOUND lanes remained closed.

Police and emergency personnel were on the scene. At least one person was reported injured.
