A section of Prospect Street in Binghamton's First Ward was out of service after it was covered by mud from an embankment along Route 17.

The mudslide occurred during heavy rain Thursday night. It happened just east of Mygatt Street.

Layers of mud spread across the street and onto the sidewalk in front of a few homes.

About a dozen workers spent several hours Friday morning clearing the mud from the roadway and the sidewalk.

Although the mud came within a few feet of the Prospect Street homes, there appeared to be no property damage.
