Several thousand people were readfy to twist again with the music of recording legend Chubby Checker at Tioga Downs Casino in Nichols May 30.  But, Mother nature had other plans.  With ominous clouds rolling in and lightning on the horizon the music came to a halt after about 20 minutes of his show.  Following a delay of about 90 minutes the remaining part of the concert was cancelled.

Chubby Checker set the music industry on fire with his rendition of
"The Twist".  The song hit number one on the Billboard 100 chart in September,1960 and then topped the chart a second time in early 1962.  Billboard Magazine proclaimed 'The Twist" as the biggest hit song of the 1960's.

Following the announcement that the show was cancelled due to the storms and rain pounding the area, Checker came inside the casino to sign autographs for his fans. At age 73 he continues to tour and perform  his hits over the years and his most recent release "Changes".
