Another area resident reports they’ve discovered identity theft after filing their tax return.

Pennsylvania State Police say a Susquehanna County woman was contacted by the IRS concerning her federal return. The Montrose woman was advised she had been the victim of identity theft.

Recently, there have been several reports of residents going to file their return to find someone had already attempted to file in their name, or who are contacted by someone claiming to be from the IRS, requesting personal information in order to either expedited the intended victim’s refund or threatening them for allegedly owing back taxes.

Any suspicious incidents should be reported immediately to local law enforcement.
