A monument honoring fallen police officers has been dedicated outside Johnson City police headquarters.

Representatives of area law enforcement agencies were joined by government officials and local residents for the dedication program this morning on Avenue C.

The monument honors village patrolmen Harold Huff and David Smith Jr.

Huff died after his patrol vehicle was struck by a passenger train in August 1925. Smith died after he was shot when he responded to a disturbance in March of last year.

The cost of the monument was covered by donations from individuals and businesses.

During the dedication ceremony this morning, the Johnson City Police Association acknowledged the assistance of other agencies and individuals following the shooting of Smith.
