Authorities say 32-year-old David Mason of New Milford was to be charged with aggravated assault in connection with Thursday's incident in Bridgewater Township.

According to state police, Mason is accused of stabbing Karen Smith of Forest City.

Investigators say Mason was a backseat passenger in a Dodge Ram truck that was traveling on Route 706 in the area of the Endless Mountain Health Systems Hospital.

Mason apparently became agitated at Smith, a front seat passenger, when she turned up the radio to a loud level against his wishes.

Police say Mason used a pocket knife to stab Smith in the neck, left shoulder and left arm. They say the driver of the truck, Timothy Donahue, stopped the attack. Donahue then drove Smith to Montrose Memorial Hospital where she was treated for four stab wounds.

Authorities say drug use also may have been a factor in the incident.

Mason was taken into custody and sent to Susquehanna County Jail on a probation violation detainer.
