A 15 year old Binghamton-area girl who was the point of an alert by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children is in the custody of her legal guardian now.

Broome County Sheriff’s officials and the Endicott Police located Rebecca Shackleton, who ran away from the Children’s Home in Hillcrest July 29 while on a friend visit.

Authorities say she was never in danger and was willingly in the company of a 16 year old boy.  That boy was wanted on a warrant from Family Court.  He and Shackleton were taken into custody and turned over to the Broome County Sheriff’s Office Juvenile Detective.

The 16 year old was taken into custody by Broome County Family Court while Shackleton was turned over to the custody of the  Otsego County Department of Social Services.

In a statement, Broome County Sheriff David Harder expressed thanks to the public for tips regarding Shackleton’s possible location.
