Officials say three firefighters are recovering from minor injuries following a Chenango County brush fire.

17 fire departments from Chenango and Cortland Counties reportedly responded to the blaze on Cross Road in the Town of German at around 3 p.m. May 7.

Two firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion and the third for an asthma-related problem.

It’s estimated close to 20 acres burned.

Officials say battling the massive fire was a challenge given the steep and remote terrain, dry vegetation, thick undergrowth, tree stumps and logs at the site in the Red Brook State Forest.
