An off-duty state trooper helped Endicott police track down a suspect in a convenience store robbery.

Authorities say Anthony Gutek of Michigan has been charged with first-degree robbery, a felony.

Police say Gutek is suspected of robbing the Runway Convenience Store at East Main Street and Vestal Avenue just before 5 a.m. Monday.

Detectives say a man wearing a mask threatened a clerk with an "edged weapon" and demanded cash. The robber then is said to have placed the employee in a store cooler.

An off-duty state trooper spotted a man running from the store and getting into a vehicle. The trooper called 911 and with his help, Endicott police apprehended Gutek on Wallace Street in West Corners.

Investigators say police found money, a weapon and a mask in the vehicle Gutek had been driving.
