Memorial Day Weekend

Parades and memorial services are planned throughout the area this Memorial Day.  At one time Memorial Day was every May 30th.  In 1971 Congress passed the National Holiday Act of 1971 which changed Memorial Day to the last Monday in May.  Memorial Day is believed to have originated in 1865 and was established in memory and honor of those military personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Around our area there are a number of services planned.  In Oxford members of the American Legion Post 376 plan to visit residents of the Veterans Home after a wreath laying ceremony. They will hold a memorial service there at 11:00 AM.
