Police across New York and Pa. are stepping up their patrols and checkpoints this holiday weekend.  Governor Cuomo directed New York State officials to suspend most highway and bridge work for the long weekend to prevent traffic congestion where possible.  The Governor also announced that State Police will add numerous sobriety checkpoints on roadways throughout New York.

Earlier this week the Broome County STOP-DWI Program announced that area law enforcement agencies will deploy special DWI enforcement patrols to help ensure that roadways around Broome County will be safe from drunk and impaired drivers.

Law enforcement officials urge driversnot to drink and drive.  Use a designated driver, call a friend to get you, take a taxi or walk but don't drink and drive.  Officials suggest that if you see or know someone who is attempting to drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs...take their keys and help them make safe travel arrangements.
