Binghamton Mayor Matthew Ryan and other demonstrators gathered outside the Regal Movie Theaters on Friday night following the opening of the movie about hydrofracking called "Promised Land."

The demonstrators say the film helps to point out the hazards associated with high volume horizontal drilling for natural has in the Marcellus Shale.

Ryan, who is in his final year as mayor, has been an outspoken opponent of the drilling method.  Ryan has publicly stated that he intends to return to his previous career as an environmental lawyer and will concentrate on fighting to ban fracking.

Supporters of the method continue to point towards Pennsylvania where fracking is underway as a job builder and a boon to local and state economies.
