May Day is being marked on the Binghamton University campus with a teach-in to support a 40-hour work week.

The event at the Library North Conference Room is held by Students Organizing Against Reynolds, The Binghamton Chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America, Democracy Matters at Binghamton and the Frances Beal Society.

Students Against Reynolds or “SOAR” has been active for several years and has claimed that the University does business with companies that operates sweatshops.  The group claims Pactive, a subsidiary of Reynolds Corporation, forces women and immigrants to work mandatory overtime.

The event also features speakers against New York regulations to legalize 24 hour workdays in the homecare industry.
