How happy were Binghamton Mets' fans August 26 when Steven Matz made a return visit to the mound at NYSEG Stadium on a rehab assignment from New York ? Happy enough to give the hero of Binghamton's championship win over Richmond last September a standing ovation when he made his appearance and happy enough to cheer his six strikeouts over six innings of virtually flawless pitching.

The line on Matz for his six innings of work...no runs, one hit and six strikeouts.  He was on a 60 pitch count and threw 56 pitches over six innings.  At one point in the game he recorded five consecutive strikeouts and retired the last 16 batters he faced in a row.

Speaking with media members after his outing Matz said management in New York had not spoken with him about  when to expect a retun to the Major Leagues.
