Don Mattingly is back on the east coast just a little further south than when he starred for the New York Yankees.  The Associated Press reports that Mattingly is the new manager of the Miami Marlins. Mattingly starred as a first baseman for the Yankees during a Major League career that spanned from 1982 - 1995. He stepped down as manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers after the playoff series in which the New York Mets eliminated the Dodgers from the post-season.

Mattingly replaces Dan Jennings as skipper of the Marlins.  Mattingly  compiled a record of 446 and 363 as Dodgers' manager.  The Marlins were 71-91 this season and experienced their sixth consecutive losing season.  The Marlins have several good, young standouts including pitching ace Jose Fernandez and hard-hitting Giancarlo Stanton.
