A New York State Police team has harvested tens of thousands of dollars worth of marijuana from what may come to be known as "Pot Island" in Tioga County.

Authorities say troopers from the Underwater Recovery Team were involved in the eradication detail on the island in the Susquehanna River in Owego.

According to an item on the state police Facebook page posted on Thursday afternoon, the unit assisted members of the Community Narcotics Enforcement Team.

The post indicated the operation was conducted on September 15. Police estimated the marijuana seized from the island was worth $30,000.

Investigators familiar with the case were not immediately available to provide additional information as to how police learned of the marijuana and whether any arrests are expected.
