Man Sentenced for Raping a 12 Year Old Girl

Bob Joseph/WNBF News [file][/caption]An Endicott man is spending 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to the rape of a 12 year old girl but also faces additional federal prosecution.

Broome County District Attorney Steven Cornwell called the case against 49 year old Michael Gumaer “disgusting” and says he doesn’t deserve to see the light of day out of prison.

Gumaer was sentenced Friday, February 17 in Broome County Court.

Prosecutors say the victim’s family recognized him from a video of the little girl engaging in sexual intercourse with a man.

A family member in Florida reported getting a package containing hard drives that Gumaer had claimed were family photos he didn’t want to lose.  The relative took a look at one of the drives and contacted police.
