It may be the coolest apartment in what once was dubbed the "Coolest Small Town in America."

The two-bedroom residence is on the third floor of the old Tioga County Jail in the village of Owego.

It's one of several apartments in the former jail and sheriff's office property at the corner of Main and Court streets.

Property manager Frances Evans told WNBF News one of the six apartments is special because it still features intact jail cells.

The newest resident just moved in after a couple who had lived there for the past two years moved to New York City.

Evans said the previous residents lived there with two dogs. She said they loved the place.

When the unusual apartment was advertised a few weeks ago, Evans said she received a few inquiries before renting the place.

Evans said the new "inmate" seems pleased with the place. She said "he loves it."

When he wants lunch or dinner, he won't need to settle for bread and water. A restaurant, The Calaboose Grille, is located just below.
