Man Dies in Car/Dump Truck Crash in Unadilla

New York State Police say a Sidney man is dead and two others injured after his Chevrolet Impala collided with a dump truck in Unadilla at 11:52 a.m. July 31.

Troopers say 92 year old Joseph Norton of Sidney was traveling east on State Route 7 when he entered a sharp turn and drifted into the on-coming lane, colliding head-on with the westbound dump truck.

Norton was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck, 38 year old Jeffrey Haynes of Sidney was listed in critical condition after being airlifted to the Albany Medical Center while his passenger, 40 year old Jackie Ryan was listed in stable condition at Wilson Hospital in Johnson City.

The investigation is continuing and authorities say an autopsy is to be performed at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton.
