Authorities say 44-year-old Jerry Teel of Danville, Ohiio, was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Village police say a cleaner at the Red Roof Inn on Fairview Street found the loaded semi-automatic handgun.

The gun was taken to the police station. Officers returned to the hotel room a short time later and interviewed Teel. He told them he brought the gun with him for protection while he was working in the area.

Teel was arraigned in Johnson City village court and released.
