A Tioga County man who oversaw a Binghamton University construction project has agreed to pay back more than $8,000 he received from the sale of leftover copper wire.

Authorities say 56-year-old Donald McManus of Apalachin pleaded guilty to a charge of attempted grand larceny.

According to the state attorney general's office, McManus worked for LeChase Construction Services on a Binghamton University dormitory project.

McManus supervised the company's construction team and project subcontractors on the Vestal campus.

McManus admitted he kept money from copper wire sales when the proceeds should have been turned over to the university.

McManus entered the guilty plea in Vestal town court. He's agreed to provide $8,256.59 in restitution.

Officials say McManus is expected to be sentenced to three years probation and to pay the restitution. He also will not be permitted to work in a construction job or in any capacity for Binghamton University.
