The Maine Black Bears showed why they are one of the top women's basketball teams in America East as they defeated the Binghamton Bearcats 52-38 at the Events Center Saturday, January 30.  Maine ups its America East record to 7-1 and 16-7 overall.  The Bearcats drop to 4-4 and 9-12 overall.

Maine was off and running taking a 21-4 lead early in the first half.  But a Binghamton surge of 12 consecutive points cut the Black Bears' lead to 21-16 and at the half Maine was up 26-18.

Maine controlled much of the second half to win by a final of 52-38.  Binghamton was paced by Imani Watkins and Rebecca Carmody with nine points each.  Alyssa James and Kim Albrecht netted eight points apiece for the Bearcats.

Maine's Liz Wood scored a game-high 18 points and also grabbed 14 rebounds. It was Play 4Kay Day and helped raise money and awareness in the fight against breast cancer.  Funds raised go to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.  Kay was the women's head coach at North Carolina State for 34 years and passed away from breast cancer after a lengthy fight.

The Bearcats remain home and will host Stony Brook on Wednesday night, February 3.  The game begins at 7:00 p.m. with air at 6:45 on ESPN 1360 AM with Tim Heiman.
