The Maine Endwell School District is clear to spend millions of dollars on upgrades to its school buildings.

Residents have approved the close to $17 million plan by a vote of 346 to 251.

A majority of the expense is being covered by New York State aid with $3 million in local tax burden.

While work to upgrade and repair infrastructure and safety mechanisms will be done at all the schools, most of the work is planned for Maine Memorial and Homer Brink elementary schools.

The district hosted an open house and a couple public hearings leading up to the vote.
