The 140,000-square-foot store in the Oakdale Mall opened in  2006. A mall representative noted Macy's owns the building which houses the store. The representative said "as far as we know, they're here to stay."

Last January, Macy's announced it would shut down four New York state stores and three stores in Pennsylvania.

The company's store in the Arnot Mall in Big Flats was one of the stores closed in that round of cost-cutting. Macy's had said 79 people worked at that store.

The locations of the 100 stores to be closed early next year will be announced at a later date.

In a statement, Macy's chairman and CEO Terry Lundgren said the company must do things differently and "make tough decisions" in a "fast-changing world."
