Standout runner and 2016 Maine-Endwell graduate  Dan Schaffer has moved a few miles down the road to compete for the Binghamton Bearcats and is already making his mark on the collegiate racing scene.  Last Friday Shaffer, who is a redshirt freshman with the Bearcats, won the Buffalo Stampede covering the 8,000 meter course in 24:38.  He finished five seconds faster than Ryan Hughes from the University of Pittsburgh. Former Bearcat Erik Van Ingen won the Buffalo Stampede in 2008.

85 runners competed from all three NCAA levels.  Shaffer paced the Bearcats to a third- place finish among Division I schools.  Shaffer had a standout running career with the Spartans at Maine-Endwell.  He won the New York State Federation outdoor track championship in the 1,600 meter event in his senior year.  In 2015 Shaffer was named first-team all-state by the New York State Sportswriters Association.
