Binghamton University is hosting a Lyme Disease Conference May 9.

The tick-borne disease can cause debilitating illness or even death.

While there have been few human cases reported locally recently, several instances of pets, primarily dogs, being infected in the area have been documented over the past year.

The conference, which is cosponsored by Southern Tier Lyme Support will take place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Innovative Technologies Complex on Murray Hill Road.

Pre-registration is required for the free conference. Go to  www.southerntierlymesupport.com.
