The National Weather Service in Binghamton says the 1.71 inches of rain recorded last evening sets a record for rainfall on July 7 by .09 of an inch.

While numerous flash flood warnings were issued, area emergency services officials say there were few problems.  Chenango County authorities say, at one point, there were locations where water was flowing across roadways, but no damage to infrastructure.

New York State Electric and Gas crews worked into the morning restoring power to hundreds of customers in the Windsor Area, Chemung County, Sherburne and other scattered locations.

Lighting is blamed for starting a house fire at around 7 p.m. on Airport Road in the Town of Union that caused part of the roof to cave in. The family fled the home when they heard the lightning strike.  There were no injuries.

Over a half dozen fire companies worked at the scene for about four hours.
