City of Binghamton officials say a tip to the Mayor's facebook page has resulted in a North Side property being condemned.

Mayor Richard David says as soon as he was alerted about the supposed unoccupied Lockwood Street property, he notified the Code Enforcement Department.

The Code Officer found water had been turned off by the City after the bill had been unpaid, but tenants were still living in the building.

The Mayor says the apartment house has been deemed uninhabitable.

David also praised the resident who alerted the City to the problem and encouraged other residents to report problems they see.

Meanwhile, New York State has created a consumer hotline to report vacant properties dubbed "Zombie Properties" that bring down property values and negatively impact whole neighborhoods.  That number is 1-800-342-3736.
