An anonymous donor has provided a gift of $2.2 million to the Athletics Department at Binghamton University to provide lights and a FieldTurf artificial surface for the school's baseball field.  Work started yesterday on the project.  Plans are to have the construction completed in time for the 2017 baseball season.

According to Head Baseball Coach Tim Sinicki the artificial surface will cover the entire field including home plate, the pitcher's mound and baselines.  In addition state of the art lighting will be installed enabling the Bearcats to play night games, practice at night and potentially host the America East post-season tournament and other  evening events.

With the new FieldTurf installed Binghamton will be able to practice and play as temperatures and weather conditions warrant.  They will not have to worry about unplayable field conditions unless the weather is extreme.

The donor of the $2.2 million gift is a Binghamton University Alumnus.  The name was not released and the donor has requested that no name identification be announced.

The Bearcats open the 2017 season on February 17 at New Mexico.  Binghamton has advanced to the NCAA Regionals in three of the last four seasons.  Last season the Bearcats won both the regular season and tournament America East Conference titles.
