A couple Broome County Legislators are sounding off against plans to privatize the Central Food services under the proposed county budget.

Democrats Mark Walen and Kim Myers held a news conference and accused County Executive Debra Preston of crafting the privatization plans and upgrades to the Willow Point Nursing Home kitchen as part of a plan to sell the county-owned nursing home.

The County Executive's office issued a statement saying it was pushing more to save Willow Point while saving taxpayers money.

Central Foods employs about 75 workers and supplies meals to the nursing home, jail, Meals on Wheels and Senior Centers.

Many of the employees fear if the division is taken over by a private company, they will lose their jobs.
