A long-term lane closure in the Prospect Mountain Project work zone will affect traffic in Binghamton.

According to the state Department of Transportation, the Route 17 East ramp to Interstate 81 will be reduced from two lanes to a single lane. The change will allow crews to install pavement marking associated with a new traffic pattern.

The closure will permit the construction of a new pier for the future I-81 North/Route 17 West flyover bridge.

Drivers are being warned to prepare for slow-moving traffic and sudden stops.
