Kowalsky Leads Binghamton’s Devils

The Binghamton Devils usher in their American Hockey League season on Saturday night, October seventh when they host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at 7:05 PM.  With a new affiliation comes plenty of new players as well as a new head coach.

Rick Kowalsky leads the Binghamton Devils in their inaugural campaign.  This marks his eighth season as the head coach of New Jersey’s American Hockey League affiliate.  He comes to Binghamton after spending the past seven seasons in Albany developing future NHL’ers.

Kowalsky brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to Binghamton.  As a player he as drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the tenth round in 1992.  He played in 516 games in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) and 183 contests in the American Hockey League (AHL).  He was named an East Coast Hockey League All-Star in both 1995 and 2003. He helped lead the Trenton Titans to the Kelly Cup Championship in 2005.

After his retirement in 2005 Kowalsky became an assistant coach with Trenton and then became head coach for three seasons before moving up to the AHL’s Albany Devils.  He has been there until the affiliation move to Binghamton.
