Kopernik Observatory and Science Center is showcasing renovations to its environmental control systems.

The upgrades include a real-time monitoring system of the Geothermal and solar panels.

Officials say they are now saving 36 percent over last year’s energy costs.

Grants for the upgrades were made possible through Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo, the Community Foundation for South Central New York and New York State Electric and Gas.

Kopernik Director Drew Askur says the system is also doing additional duty as a teaching tool for young people visiting the observatory in Vestal.
