Just days after the holiday shopping season ended, Kmart's parent company has announced plans to shut down two additional stores not far from Binghamton.

The Kmart stores in Sayre and Honesdale are expected to close in early April.

The two Pennsylvania stores are among 64 Kmart locations being shuttered by Sears Holdings.

The company also announced it intends to close 39 Sears stores in March and April.

Kmart's Binghamton Plaza store - it's last remaining operation in Broome County - went out of business in December 2016,  just before Christmas.

The Sears store at the Oakdale Mall in Johnson City closed last September.

Sears Holdings has been struggling in recent years as many of its stores failed to turn a profit. In a news release, the company said it is continuing efforts to transform its business model to "match the needs and preferences" of its customers.
