A large book warehouse in Broome County is closing.

Officials have announced the Penguin Random House distribution center in Kirkwood will be closed by June of next year.

The move comes as the company consolidates after Penguin merged with Random House last year.

Officials said some positions would be offered relocation opportunities.

The company has declined to reveal the number of employees at the Kirkwood facility.

A distribution facility in Pittston, Pennsylvania is also closing.

The distribution operations that had been spread between four centers are to be consolidated into warehouses in Crawfordsville, Indiana and Westminster, Maryland.

The Kirkwood warehouse has been the long-time site of popular, regular book sales.
