Plans are moving forward to erect a new cellphone tower in the Village of Johnson City. After an original plan for a tower on the hill at the top of Reynolds Road was rejected over protests from neighbors last year, village officials are okaying the initial plans for a tower behind Warehouse Carpet Warehouse on Reynolds Road.

Last week, Capital Telecom flew a test balloon above the site to simulate the possible visual impact of the proposed 120 foot tower.

The zoning board held a public hearing on the permit application February 12th and moved the plan forward.

The new tower is expected to help improve cell service coverage in the area.
